Comprehensive Set Design for Lizzy McAlpine's "Older" Tour
Sometimes music feels so genuine and raw that it transports the listener straight into the studio during the recording. Lizzy McAlpine's set was designed to capture that essence, reflecting the atmosphere where her album Older came to life. The life-size studio set for Lizzy McAlpine's "Older" Tour was custom made by Dark Moon Designs complete with detailed carpentry, lighting integration, and working acoustic baffles.

This set was inspired by the studio where Lizzy wrote her first album, "Older". The intention was to recreate it in hopes of inviting the audience into her home studio with her for a cozy, intimate performance. Lizzy's studio, pictured here at Red Rocks Ampitheatre, is complete with a working door that she enters and exits stage through.

Process Details
The design is a blown out studio space with a broken fourth wall allowing the audience to be privy to the band’s creative flow. To make this design capable of touring, we split the wall into eight flats, including a functional door and a 5’x7’ acrylic window serving as a portal into the monitor engineer’s mixing room. The crown molding masked a strip of LED lighting that was used to subtly warm up the set and reinforce the soft texture of the walls. Hollywood style flats use ‘giraffes’ or ‘jacks’ to provide support and structure, but in order to survive a long tour we had to adapt this concept to be more durable, portable, and flat packed.
