CANTIGNY PARK, 2023
Christmas at Cantigny
Neon Tunnel & Poinsettias
In collaboration with LEC Event Technology, we created two installations for Cantigny Park to celebrate the holiday season. Known for its poinsettias, Cantigny inspired us to design abstract metallic flowers along the walking path. We also built an LED-lit tunnel of metallic reeds, creating a bright, immersive walkway for visitors.

In order to produce the poinsettias, we had to cut 108, 16 gauge aluminum flower petals. We bent these around a buck so they were all the same general shape and welded in place with pencil rod. The bases were made of 1x2” aluminum tube and were made to be staked into the ground. The flowers were finished in a car-paint system: a high gloss cherry red and a champagne pink.

Process Details
The Neon Tunnel was constructed primarily of 2”x2” aluminum square tube, rolled to four different radii. Aluminum base plates with holes cut to match industry standard patterns ensured these would secure to steel bases on-site while remaining lightweight for travel. LED neon was installed on each reed, and wired in series. Each reed was controlled by an Enttec PLink which was fed by an Enttec Pixelator Mini. These too were finished in a blue-grey car paint gloss.
